Patrick Dewilde (EE `66 KULeuven, Lic. Math. `68 and PhD `70 Stanford University) has been a professor in electrical engineering at the Technical University of Delft for 31 years, director of the Delft Institute for Micro-electronics and Sub-micron Technology for ten years, chairman of the Technology Foundation STW (a major Dutch research funding agency) for eight years and director of the Institute for Advanced Study of the Technische Universität München for five years. His research, published in the open scientific literature and some books, has focused on the design, control and operations of dynamical systems in general, and in particular their philosophical and mathematical foundations. He is an IEEE Fellow (since 1981), an elected member of the Dutch Academy of Arts and Science, has been elevated to the rank of Knight of the Dutch Lion and is presently a honorary professor both at the Technische Universität München and the Technical University of Wroclaw.
